Ender's Game

I just read Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, mostly out of curiosity of the popularity of this author, and this one was recommended. I had fun with it. Although it's not the best book I've ever read, it was different than what I'm use to reading. I don't normally read Sci-fi. I found myself getting really into this one though, even dreaming about interspace battle strategies and maneuvering in zero-gavity, which this book is especially good at descibing. After looking for it on Amazon, I noticed that it is the beginning of a whole series of books about Ender.

you probably have to really love orson csott cards stuff to read the rest of the books in the ender series i guess. i read them and loved them, but ive probably read about 20 of his books now. i think the best series is one called the "alvin maker" series. the first book is called "seventh son". you should really try that one lis! it isn't science fiction, it's completly different, and has a lot of references to joseph smith and his life. its another easy read and i know you will love it!

the seventh son is more of an alternate history, I really liked it to

you know, i always think i don't like sci fi, then i'll read that genre and like it. maybe i'll have to pick that one up.

l don't really ever read science fiction either, but enders game is different from regular stuff of that genre i think.

if you try it lis, you will be hooked on alvin and you will have to read all 7 in the series, so you better beware. :)

getting hooked on that doesn't seem so bad. there are worse things to get hooked on than books. i do have an addictive personality...

i never think that i will like sci-fi so i barely ever read it and then when i do, i usually like it. maybe it's because when it comes to sci-fi and also fantasy i just read stuff that people recommend to me. i never just pick up a book of those genres without being pushed into it.
i still want to read some of those fantasy novels you have posted about dagga.

Fantasy and Si-Fi is not so diffirent from other types of literature it all comes down to human emotion and action in the end and Si-Fi and Fantasy just gives you another point of view to explore it from.
What did you think of his style and tone? that is what I admire about his books the most, even when I have forgotten the plot I remember the mood and he has that extra factor that makes his work stand out, its really very difficult to put a finger on.

I always forget the c in Sci-fi

those darn silent letters. i can see why english is one of the hardest languages to learn.
yeah i liked the tone. his style i don't know yet since i've only read this one. (i have seventh son on order at the library though).
i thought the tone was very...light?... maybe. it was exciting enough without being stressful. does that make sense? i liked that there were no unnecessarily shocking or disgusting moments too.

i like what you said dagga about sci-fi and fantasy just being another point of view to explore emotion and action from. it seems like an obvious thing but i never thought of it that way. i opened my mind a little.

i think that the thing i like most and that stands out most to me about orson scott card's writing is how he develops and portrays the characters. the main character always seems to be someone who i wish i was like, or i wish they were my best friend, they are always so cool. that is true of ender, alvin, all the women in the women of genensis books (which are also so so good lis), and well, pretty much all the card books i have ever read. when i pick up an orson scott card book i just know i will fall in love with the main character, so i always want to read more of his. yeah.
